7 Awesome New Kickstarters You Probably Missed This Week
Kickstarter is a magical place — or it can be, anyway. Worst of all, though, is when great ideas go unnoticed. That means a great product that could have changed lives never gets the funding it deserved — and often for no good reason.
To help avoid those great ideas falling through the cracks, each week we’re bringing you handpicked Kickstarters you should know about. Some may have blown through their funding goal already, and some may be struggling, but they’re all producing awesome gear that could make your life that much better.
ESPRO: The World’s Lightest Coffee Press & Hydration Bottle
Coffee when you’re on the go is kind of a problem — there’s no Starbucks in the wilderness, after all. With their latest offering, Espro made things a lot easier. Essentially marrying a french press coffee maker with those popular aluminum sports bottles, it allows you to make 16 oz of grit-free coffee anytime, anywhere. It’s super lightweight and portable, but the double-wall, vacuum-sealed construction will keep whatever’s in it hot or cold for hours.
Something Obscene Company: The Nemley Cleaver 2.0
It’s a pocket knife! It’s a cleaver! It’s BADASS. Designed by a bladesmith with over 300 custom knives to his name, the thick-bodied cleaver design offers a lot more weight and stability over lower-profile EDC knives — perfect for hacking through heavy duty stuff. The titanium components will last and last, and the music in the promo video lets you know that this knife RAWKS.
Sword Clips: Sword Shaped Tie Clips
From real blades to fake ones. Tie clips are the perfect place for men to show their personality a little, so indulge your inner nerd and subtly let everyone know that you’re ’bout it with one of these Sword Clips. I see designs from LoTR, Final Fantasy VII, The Legend of Zelda, ThunderCats and more. It’s fun!
Ease Roller: Roll & Stretch Back Pain Away
Many, many people suffer from back pain, but there isn’t a great way to treat it. Some people try foam rollers, but they’re too small in diameter and thus more likely to hurt than help. The Ease Roller ups the diameter and softens the surface, allowing you to use your body weight to stretch the spine and relieve tension. The mini version, being smaller than a traditional foam roller, can actually get to those hard to reach muscles to stimulate myofascial release.
CoolHead: Coolest Cycling Helmet on Earth
A helmet is vital to your safety while cycling, but they aren’t comfortable. In high temperatures they can get downright swampy, and that can even hurt your performance if you’re worried about that kind of thing. CoolHead takes water-activated cooling fabric and smartly designed air vents to use evaporation to keep its interior up to 11 degrees F cooler than regular helmets. That’s a big difference.
Humans aren’t really built to thrive in the water, so it’s not hard to improve the experience. The kids’ version are basically improved inflatable floaties, keeping the child afloat while giving them more control thanks to the handles. Even cooler is the adult foam version, which both make it easier to float when you want, but also allow you to power through the water when swimming. They’re a lot more convenient than an inner tube or raft, that’s for sure.
TWINE: A New Way To Hang Clothes
Hanging your clothes to dry, whether on a line or drying rack, is hands-down the most affordable and environmentally-friendly way to dry your clothes. But the problem is clothespins, which break easily and leave marks on your garments. Twine is a simple, elegant solution to both of those problems — there are no components to break, and because they’re flat and smooth, they won’t mark or wrinkle. Just pop them over the garment, and let nature do its thing.
