Millions Of Pornhub Visitors Exposed To Malware Attack

Trending News: Millions Of Pornhub Visitors Have Been Targeted By A Nasty Virus

Long Story Short

If you’ve been on Pornhub in the past year — no judgment here — you might’ve seen an ad that asked you to install something for your browser. The ad was malware (surprise, surprise), according to reports, and millions of computers might have been exposed.

Long Story

A whopping 80 million people visit Pornhub every day according to the site, and millions of them might have been exposed to Kotver malware, according to The Daily Mail.

For a full year, the malware showed up as a pop-up to get you to install some fake updates for your browser like Adobe, Firefox or Chrome. But in reality, it opened up an invisible browser that clicked on ads in the background, making the people who initiated the malware some cash. It’s possible that that the malicious software could have also done things like spy on people through their computer or give them a virus.

Pornhub visitors in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom were most likely impacted, according to the report.

Pornhub says it has stopped the attack and does its best to protect its user’s privacy, including by encrypting its pages with ‘https’ (FYI: AskMen.com has done this as well).

Of course, this isn’t the first time malware has struck millions of people, and it won’t be the last. The good news is this doesn’t look like it went nearly to the extent of the Ashley Madison or Equifax hacks, which exposed thousands and hundreds of thousands of people respectively.

The other good news is that preventing this type of attack is pretty easy. Just don’t click on or install ANYTHING you don’t trust, especially when you’re looking at porn or on gambling sites. Besides that, you should definitely be browsing with a VPN to protect your security and antivirus software couldn’t hurt as well.

It’s true that accidents happen, so make sure your stuff is always backed up on the cloud or on an external hard drive that’s disconnected from your computer.
